In a series of seasonal workshops, we will delve into the ancient practice of Ayurveda, the holistic healing science for the body – sister to Yoga’s healing science for the mind. Meaning science (veda) of life (ayur) Ayurveda takes a personalized, preventative approach to optimal health and longevity in harmony with nature’s pulse.
During each workshop, Sona will share what inspires her seasonal rhythms and guide you through a simple but effective daily routine that will help to energize and nurture you in each seasonal transition. You’ll explore the importance of adjusting your yoga, pranayama and meditation practices to the season, plus key diet and lifestyle changes, appropriate herbs to use and recipes that can be used to bring about balance. You'll also learn how to recognize imbalances associated with seasonal changes in relationship to your individual constitution, and simple tools to correct them.
SUMMER
The focus of this workshop is cultivating a serene and smooth transition to welcome the season of the brilliant sun. The transition from Spring to Summer is marked by the peak of nature's growth during the year. Summer, a time of play and creativity, where long, light sun-filled days and lazy afternoons are plenty, has its challenges too; as the outside temperature builds, our internal landscape does the same, calling for cooling and buoyancy. Practices are aimed at helping us relax, destress and surrender to the longer days and higher temperatures. The increase in activity during the Summer invites us to find more pause, to discover ways to stay cool and calm in moments when we can "overheat" (Pitta dosha) and to balance the intensity and expansion of the summer (Vata dosha) with grounding and mellowing.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The workshop will begin with a calming, lunar focused yoga practice - about 60 minutes of guided, cooling yoga and breath practice, aligned to the Summer season. This portion is for you to experience the seasonal wisdom of Ayurveda in your being. Gentle assists and aromatherapy will be incorporated so you feel nurtured and replenished.
Post-practice, we will dive into discussion and discovery, exploring the nuts and bolts of Ayurveda, the doshas (bio-energies) and dinacharya (daily routine) for the Summer. All levels welcome!
