w h y L O O M—
LOOM came to me in a literal dream one night, during a time in my life where I had experienced many endings all at once, and no clear next step. The intuition I had surrounding LOOM was rare for me at the time, yet undeniably potent.
I had been teaching yoga for several years but I knew I had reached a fork in the road that was calling me forth to create my own space for those who I deeply cared for in my community. Within days, I drew my logo, found a space to rent and opened a Thai Yoga studio, one step that led me to create many other pathways of learning, growth and self-realization.
As I stand here today, the energy of LOOM continues to flow, guiding me wisely through the waters of life.
LOOM pays homage to the Sanskrit word tantra, which means to weave.
/luːm/ a device used to create fabric by interweaving threads by holding them under tension.
The system of yoga gives us sutras (threads) that guide us toward our highest self.
Yoga is the process of weaving the very threads of our being into one.
The idea of tension is significant, as it is in times of discomfort that we experience growth and expansion.
The fabric we create is actually a remembrance of our wholeness, where nothing is lacking; where we can access purpose, clarity and heed the call to action in humanity.
As we each learn to navigate with increasing skill what presents in the moment, we lend our fabric to the richness of the human tapestry.
LOOM is also a nod to the Pali language, meaning vital energy.
/loːm/ vital energy or life force (from the ancient language Pali).
Also known as prana, qi, ki, this “wind of life” is the force that creates, sustains and transforms us.
As we awaken to the power of breath, we can begin to connect to and direct this vital energy within us.
